Share you thoughts and opinions with me.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

Well there are a lot of ways you can get involved. For started though you can visit the blogs an read them frequently, your could subscribe to them in a reader. Once you do that join the discussion and start to post your comments and questions. Engage in discussion and debate with others on posting comments. Encourage each other and the author through your comments.

As you start to get a good idea about the whole blogging thing you could write a guest post. Or a whole series of post. You may even warrant your own blog. But regardless of how you get involved the key thing is to get involved in some way shape or form. Getting involved will help open up the doors to community. It will bring good ideas out of people, it will create opportunities for serving each other, it will make us get to know more about how each other think and feel.

So get involved.

HOW WILL IT HELP REACH PEOPLE?

So now we’ve seen what a blog is and some uses for it in the church. Today we will look at how it can help reach people.

To start I want to say that a blog can be a powerful tool to help bring in the lost to the church. The first way is that gives an outsider a look into our church with the need to physically visit. They can find out what our pastor thinks about certain things. They can find out what our member think, based of their comments. They can see if we are active in community. They can get a feel for the style and mood of the church, without ever setting foot inside a physical location.

Another way that blogs help reach people is it can give them access that most churches don’t give to guests. They can ask questions, and get information. They can comment and discuss things as part of the online community associated with a blog.

Blogs help reach people by giving them a better picture of the church and giving them access to the church and its thought and information that they wouldn’t otherwise have.

So what do you think? Obviously these aren’t the only ways blogs can help reach people. What are some ways that you can think of?

WHAT CAN IT BE USED FOR?

Yesterday we answered the question “What is a blog?” to day we are going to tackle the question of “What can it be used for?. As you may have noticed in yesterday’s post, the definition a blog gave some of the various uses, so we won’t go over those, instead we will look specifically at what a blog can be used for in the context of a church/ministry. Mainly we will look at 3 different uses. Continue reading ‘Church Blogging (2 of 5)’

WHAT IS A BLOG?

According to Wikipedia a blog is

“A blog is a website where entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus photographs (photoblog), sketchblog, videos (vlog), audio (podcasting), and most are part of a wider network of social media.”

As of December 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112 million blogs. So you can see that there are a lot of people blogging out there on the internet.

Basically a blog is just a way of putting out information to readers about anything the author wants. Some blogs operate as stated above as an online diary; others operate almost as their own online magazine complete with articles and editorials. The uses of a blog range far and wide.

So now that we have an Idea of what a blog is tomorrow we will look at “What can it be used for”

As an end note I am curious, how many of you reading this already have a good idea of what a blog is? If you do know do you have your own blog? If you didn’t know what they are, do you think they sound anymore interesting? Please use the comments below to answer.

The New Blogs and Website.

So as you may all have noticed we have this snazzy new website and even more interestingly these nifty little blogs. “Why?” you might ask. Well to put it simply, we want you, the Church members and Attenders to have more access to see what God is doing here at Crossroads.

We want to encourage openness and the sharing of information. We want you to be a part of the process too! Read the Blogs, share them with others, comment on them, and yes even write posts for them. These blogs are an extension of the Crossroads family they are a way for us to stay in touch even when can’t physically touch. So don’t just sit back and visit every now and then, is that how you treat a friend? Come back frequently and participate freely.

Thank You
-Adam Gregory

P.S. I am going to start a 5 part series on Monday on “What is a blog, and Why should I care” for those of you that may be unsure about this whole blogging thing.
